Program Description

There are a number of reasons why someone might need to place a stop payment on a check or ACH debit, but do you know the rules and regulations for allowing (or not allowing) them to do so? What if you don’t allow someone to place a stop payment but should have? Or, allowed them to when it’s not allowed? In this webinar we review the laws and rules that are in place so that you will be able to confidently convey the proper information to your accountholder and keep the credit union from suffering a loss or reputational damage.

You’ll learn:

  • Are non-member joint account owners authorized to place a stop payment on the account?
  • When does a stop payment expire?
  • Who is responsible if a stopped item is paid?
  • Can an accountholder stop payment on a cashier’s or teller’s check?
  • What items beside checks are subject to stop payments?
